Forest School

Forest School

We are fortunate to have a dedicated area in the school grounds for our Forest School sessions. Forest School is an ideal opportunity to learn outdoors, and offers a rich and sensory environment for learning. We will hold Forest School every Tuesday afternoon and we will try to go out whatever the weather!

Reception – Week 1

All the staff and I were so impressed at how sensible and how good at listening the children were during Forest School session! They had a fantastic first day learning the rules, “Don’t pick, no lick, be careful with that stick.” We had perfect dry weather and had the chance to explore within our school grounds. Our site is full of interesting treasure, many children enjoyed hunting for the dragon. Some were even lucky enough to find a dragons tooth!

Our highlights from our first week are:

Making a friendship bracelet out of dragons breath.

Finding twigs and leaves to make houses for the fairies.

Making a wooden name plaque to put round our neck.

Learning our Forest School song.

Week 2

We had another fabulous afternoon during our forest school session. They children looked around for autumn things to add to their sensory bottle. They are superb in singing the song, 'There are no bananas in the tree.'

Week 3

Luckily the weather stayed fine so we could enjoy our time exploring the Bongo. We looked around for different materials so we could build the Three Little Pigs homes.

Week 4

Children are now confident with the routines of our Forest School Sessions. We began by working in groups to look for lots of different materials to make a Natural piece of art work .  We then watched Sue light the fire to heat up the Kelly kettle for our delicious hot chocolate.  Then off we went and flattened a piece of clay in our hands and found natural objects to press into it to make a face.

Week 5

This was the last Forest school session with Sue. We enjoyed making our team flag and decorating it with drawings and writing our names. After our hot chocolate and story we had lots of energy to run n the Olympic relay race against each other. We couldn't quite work out what to do though! Finally we finished the session having such fun running under the parachute!
