St. Paul's R.C. Primary School As God's family we aspire to love, grow, learn and achieve beyond our dreams

Welcome to Reception

Welcome to our Reception Class, where we love to learn through play!  Your children are taught by Mrs Eddleston, Mrs Bailey and Mrs Hunt. We enjoy working together with you so that your child continues to have a very exciting and productive year.

Our class motto is "I can" because the children are encouraged to believe they can do anything - all they have to do is try!

Welcome back after a lovely two week break for the Easter holidays. We are hoping this term will be sunny and warm, as we have lots of activities planned for outdoors and the school garden area.

Animal Magic

Our focus topic this term is ‘Animal Magic’. We will be exploring the animal world, from farm animals, right down to tiny ants. Our focus will be how they live, their young and how we need to care for them. Many of our stories are related to our topic. Hairy Maclary, Farmer Duck, Dear Zoo, and What the Ladybird Heard are just a few we will be reading as well as a range of non-fiction texts about pets, safari animals, farms, vets and life-cycles of a frog. We have set up a “Veterinary” role play area in the classroom so please send in any animal puppets or animal dressing up clothes to enhance the area. This topic is an important area of learning in developing knowledge of the natural world as well as being very engaging for the children.

The children are continuing to work in maths:- they will use everyday language to talk about time to compare
quantities and to solve problems, doubling, halving and sharing, adding and subtracting groups of objects and recording this.

We will be also working to extend the children’s reading and writing skills over the coming term. Our focus will be on children learning to read the High Frequency Words and using them to write sentences.

R.E. Come and See

As we return to school after Easter the Church is still celebrating this great event. The focus of this term’s work in Religious Education is the role the Holy Spirit plays in our lives. We will be studying the themes of Pentecost (Serving) and Reconciliation (Inter-relating)

Good News - Passing on the Good News of Jesus

Suggestions for home activities

Talk about good news in your family and how you shared it. Ask your child to tell you the story of  Pentecost and the work of the Holy Spirit.

Friends- Friends of Jesus

Suggestions for home activities

Talk together about times when you have forgiven and been forgiven. Discuss the importance of saying sorry. Look for opportunities for forgiveness and reconciliation in the day to day life of the family.
