I am Mrs Cowell the class teacher and our marvellous teaching assistant is Mrs Hunt. Other adults we have in our class are Mrs Bailey and Miss Austin. Mrs Hayes, our Deputy Head teacher, will be teaching the children every Wednesday morning.
All information will be put on this page so it is important that you check it regularly. Any new information will be put under the 'Notices' section of this page. If you have any other enquiries, please contact the school office via phone or email as unfortunately I am unable to have lengthy conversations at the door.
Phonics: please have a look at the button below called 'Phonics' for how to say each letter sound for Phase 2. The lovely Miss Hall, the Year 1 class teacher, has kindly created this video to help families with the letter sounds. It is essential that you read the letter sounds correctly so that the children are able to blend words more easily.
Change to Reading book routine.
Due to the fact we must quarantine books for 72 hours before giving them to another family, we are giving books to the children to take home on a Monday and then collecting them in on a Friday to quarantine over the weekend. Apologies for the short notice but I'm sure you understand this is to keep everyone safe.
Once the majority of children are on book which contain words, we may be able to give a book Monday to Monday again as first planned.
Your child will only take home a reading book with words if they can recognise 15 or more letter sounds. Until then, they will receive books without words for you to discuss the pictures. If you'd like to record any extra reading you do at home in the reading record that is absolutely fine. Unfortunately, I can't comment in the reading records as normal, but I will be making my own notes on each child's progress in reading. They will be heard read very regularly in school. The children will take home 1 or 2 reading books per week.

Phase 4 letter and sounds
No new graphemes are taught in Phase 4. Instead several other skills are taught and we consolidate the phase 2 and phase 3 graphemes.
