Curriculum RE

Curriculum RE at St Paul’s RC Primary School
“In the life of faith of the Catholic school, Religious Education plays a vital part.”
(Religious Education in Catholic Schools, Bishops’ Conference, 2000)
At St Paul’s RC Primary School, Fensicowles, Religious Education (RE) is not just a subject—it is the foundation of our entire educational mission. Rooted in the Christian vision of the human person, RE is central to everything we do. As Pope John Paul II described, it is “the core of the core” of Catholic education.
A Living Faith Curriculum
RE at St Paul’s is a dynamic and reflective journey. It nurtures children’s understanding of the Catholic faith, encourages spiritual growth, and fosters a deep sense of moral responsibility. Through scripture, prayer, liturgy, and theological exploration, pupils are invited to encounter Christ and live out the Gospel values in their daily lives.
Catholic Social Teaching at the Heart
RE is not confined to the classroom. Across our curriculum, we weave in the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, helping children to see the relevance of faith in the modern world. These teachings inspire pupils to reflect on justice, compassion, and service:
- Dignity of the Human Person
- Solidarity and the Common Good
- Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
- Peace and Reconciliation
- Care for Creation
- The Dignity of Work and Participation
- Subsidiarity and the Role of Institutions
- Distributive Justice
Faith in Action
Children are encouraged to ask meaningful, thought-provoking questions and to explore how Catholic values shape our world. Whether learning about global issues, local community needs, or personal choices, pupils are challenged to consider how their faith calls them to respond with love, justice, and hope.
