St Paul's R.C. Primary School

As God's Family We Aspire To Love, Grow, Learn

And Achieve Beyond Our Dreams

Personal Development

Personal Development Statement

As a Voluntary Aided Roman Catholic primary school, the religious character and ethos of St. Paul's is central to every aspect of school life. Our vision to "Be Like St. Paul" and provide a safe, compassionate, and respectful environment for growth is evident throughout our approach to personal development.

Nurturing Spiritual, Moral, and Social Growth

The seven core values of Catholic Social Teaching - Life and Dignity of the Human Person, Call to Family, Communion and Participation, Rights and Responsibilities, Option for the Poor and Vulnerable, The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers, Solidarity and Care for God's Creation - underpin all our policies and procedures. This includes our PSHE curriculum, which provides comprehensive coverage to support pupils' broader development.

Promoting Fundamental British Values

Raising the profile of Fundamental British Values has been a priority, with children demonstrating a strong understanding through initiatives like the National Children's Election and Manifesto Monday. These values are also integrated across the curriculum, and pupils discuss them weekly during Picture News sessions, which also cover the protected characteristics.

Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion

Pupils learn about other faiths, such as Islam and Judaism, as part of the RE curriculum, and the school celebrates World Faith Day. The upcoming Linking Schools Project will further broaden children's understanding of diverse communities and perspectives.

Developing Leadership and Social Responsibility

A school chaplaincy team and Caritas Ambassadors provide valuable opportunities for KS2 pupils to take on leadership roles, organise events, and raise awareness of important social issues. Each class also supports a local charity, fostering a sense of community and social responsibility. More information on this is available on their own web pages.

Nurturing Wellbeing and Resilience

Pupils' mental health and wellbeing are prioritised through a range of initiatives, including calming music, access to the school chapel, and targeted support such as ELSA and Nurture sessions. The curriculum also focuses on developing resilience through metacognitive strategies.

Enriching the Curriculum

A wide variety of extra-curricular activities, trips, and visits complement the academic curriculum, allowing pupils to explore their talents and interests beyond the classroom. Celebrations like "St Paul's Got Talent" showcase the diverse achievements of our pupils.

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles

Pupils learn about the importance of healthy living through the curriculum, including participating in the Daily Mile. The school also encourages healthy snacks and lunches, and provides opportunities for pupils to engage with nature through the school's chickens and fish tanks.

In summary, the personal development of pupils at St. Paul's is underpinned by the school's strong Catholic ethos and commitment to nurturing the whole child. Through a wide range of opportunities and initiatives, we strive to support our pupils in "Achieving Beyond Our Dreams" and becoming confident, responsible, and well-rounded individuals.
