As God's Family We Aspire To Love, Grow, Learn

And Achieve Beyond Our Dreams

RSE

RSE at St. Paul’s

At St. Paul’s, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is an important part of our commitment to supporting the whole child — mind, body, and spirit. Rooted in our Catholic faith, RSE helps pupils to develop a positive understanding of themselves, respect for others, and an appreciation of the gift of life and love.

Statutory Guidance and Catholic Ethos

RSE is a statutory requirement for all primary schools in England. Our curriculum fully meets the UK Department for Education guidance on Relationships Education, ensuring that pupils are taught age-appropriate content to help them form healthy, respectful relationships as they grow.

As a Catholic school, we also follow the principles set out by the Catholic Education Service, ensuring that RSE is taught within the context of the Church’s moral teaching. This means pupils are supported to understand their dignity as children of God and to form loving, respectful relationships built on kindness and trust.

Our RSE Scheme – A Journey in Love

We use the approved Catholic resource “A Journey in Love”, which provides a clear, progressive framework for teaching RSE from Early Years to Year 6. This scheme explores emotional, social, spiritual, and physical development in a sensitive and age-appropriate way.

Each year group focuses on a different aspect of growth, including:

  • EYFS & KS1: Recognising and celebrating God’s love in our families and friendships.

  • Lower KS2: Understanding how we grow and change emotionally and socially.

  • Upper KS2: Learning about changes and the beauty of God’s gift of life.

All lessons are taught with care and respect, using language appropriate for the children’s age and understanding.

Partnership with Parents and Carers

We recognise that parents and carers are the primary educators of their children in matters of love and relationships. Our RSE curriculum is designed to work in partnership with families. Parents are informed in advance about RSE content and are invited to review teaching materials and resources. We value their support and welcome open communication.

A Safe and Supportive Environment

RSE at St. Paul’s is taught in a safe, respectful setting where pupils feel valued and listened to. Our aim is to help every child grow in self-confidence, build healthy relationships, and develop a moral and spiritual foundation for their lives.
